Choose your receptionist's language
Set the language your receptionist speaks and understands on every call.

The first 14 languages (English through Tagalog) appear directly in the language dropdown. The remaining 11 (Tamil through Hebrew) are accessible by selecting Other... at the bottom of the dropdown and entering the language's two-letter ISO 639-1 code. You can also use any valid ISO 639-1 code for a language not on this list — for example, sv for Swedish.
Steps
In the main sidebar, click Receptionists and select the receptionist you want to update.
In the receptionist sidebar, click the Voice tab.
At the top of the Voice page, find the Language section.
Click the language dropdown. Choose from 14 common languages: English, Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, Arabic, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, German, Italian, Russian, and Tagalog.
If your language is not listed, select Other... at the bottom of the dropdown. A short text box appears. Type the two-letter ISO 639-1 code for your language (for example,
svfor Swedish ortafor Tamil), then clickSet.
The setting saves automatically when you pick from the list. A confirmation message reading Language set to [language name] appears at the bottom of the screen.
What to expect
Your receptionist will conduct all new calls in the language you selected. Calls that are already in progress are not affected. The default language is English.
After changing the language, review the voice selected just below the Language section on the same page. Some voices work best in specific languages. Picking a voice that does not natively support your chosen language can produce an accent mismatch or unnatural-sounding speech.
Troubleshooting
My language is not in the list. Select Other... and enter the two-letter ISO 639-1 code. If the speech provider does not support that code, your receptionist will keep using English. Double-check the code at iso639-1.com before saving.
The voice sounds wrong after I switched languages. The voice and language settings are independent. Go back to the Voice tab and choose a voice that supports your new language. Use the listen button next to each voice to preview it before saving.
