Building your first AI receptionist
Use the AI builder to describe your business in plain language, and your receptionist configuration is generated automatically.
How the AI builder works
When you click New receptionist from the Voice Agents page, VoiceCraft opens a full-screen chat. You describe your business in plain language, and the AI generates a complete receptionist setup for you.
What the builder covers
The builder walks through five topics as you chat:
Appointment booking. Can your receptionist book appointments?
SMS follow-up. Should it send text confirmations or reminders?
Knowledge upload. Do you have documents (FAQs, menus, policies) the agent should reference during calls?
Voice selection. What voice and language should it use?
Phone orders. Does your business take orders over the phone?
Progress dots at the top show how many topics you have covered. Once all five are addressed, you can finalize and create the agent.
Example: how to describe your business
You might say something like: "I run a fitness studio in Chicago. We offer yoga and pilates classes. I want the receptionist to book class reservations and answer questions about pricing."
The more detail you give, the better the initial setup will be. You can always adjust settings after the agent is created.
What gets generated
The builder creates a full setup for your receptionist, including:
Business name and greeting
Which features are turned on (appointments, orders, forms)
Voice and language preferences
Conversation style
Saving and resuming
Your conversation with the builder is saved automatically. If you leave mid-way, you will see a prompt on the Voice Agents page to pick up where you left off. You can also discard the draft and start fresh.
Agent limit
Your plan determines how many receptionists you can create. If you have reached your limit, you will see a "Receptionist limit reached" message with an option to upgrade your plan.
